“Operatives of the MIA GA of Criminal Investigation and of the MIA Administration for the city of Kazan detained in the town of Ramenskoye of the Moscow Region persons suspected of fraud,” said the MIA official representative Irina Volk.
In early April, the police received a statement from the 83-year-old resident of Kazan that unknown persons had fraudulently taken from her more than 500 thousand rubles.
The pensioner told the police that in the street she had been approached by a man and a woman asking to help them in the transfer of funds. They explained that they were denied the service by the city banking institutions, because they arrived to Kazan recently and had not yet received the registration documents. Believing the offenders, the elderly woman invited them into her apartment, where she gave them her savings book.
In the course of the subsequent talk, under the pretext that their money will reach the settlement account of the pensioner during the day, they convinced her to give them all the savings available in the book. To make the elderly woman finally believe their story, the suspects phoned an alleged bank employee, who also confirmed everything said earlier by the offenders.
After the talk the victim went to the bank where she cashed out her savings and gave them over to the strangers. In turn, she did not ask for any documents or the funds receipt. Only in the evening, having learned that the money had not arrived, she called the police.
A criminal case was initiated on the fact on the grounds of an offense stipulated by Part 3 of Art.159 of the RF Criminal Code (“Fraud”).
Police learned that a similar statement to the police was made by a pensioner from Naberezhnye Chelny. They found that the money from the elderly woman had been stolen by the offenders in a similar manner.
On May 14, during a joint special operation operatives of the MIA GA of Criminal Investigation and of the MIA Administration for the city of Kazan detained the two suspects of committing these crimes, the measure of restraint for them is being considered.
