Headline: Theft of XIX century icons was solved by police in Yaroslavl Region

Stolen icons found by the police were delivered to the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Nekrasovsky District.
As a result of the investigation and search measures, criminal investigation policemen of the Russian MIA Division for the Nekrasovsky District identified and detained three residents of the Kostroma Region suspected of having stolen eight ancient icons from the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary located in village Posdeevskoye. The stolen icons were found in the suspects’ car as they were detained. The art historical examination revealed that those icons had been created in the XIX century. The damage exceeded 500 thousand rubles.
In the course of further investigation of the criminal case on the theft of the icons from village Posdeevskoye, specialists of the Investigation Unit established the suspects’ involvement in a series of similar crimes in the neighboring regions. By now, the suspects have been arrested. The police have returned the stolen icons to the church.
