Axel Springer acquires a further 39 per cent of the shares in Car&Boat Media. As a consequence, the operator of La Centrale, the largest specialist car classifieds portal in France, as well as further digital content and classifieds portals in the car and boat segment will fully belong to Axel Springer in the future. The seller is a subsidiary of the French media enterprise Spir Communication. A respective agreement was signed on September 23rd, 2016. Closing is expected to take place in the coming weeks.
Car&Boat Media, founded in 2007, has approximately 8 million monthly unique visitors across all its digital offerings – 3.2 million of these on La Centrale alone (Médiametrie, 6/2016). The company has been majority-owned by Axel Springer since 2014. Besides La Centrale, Car&Boat Media also runs the portals Promoneuve.fr (a marketplace for new cars), AnnoncesBateau.com (the leading French portal for boats), Caradisiac.com (the leading French information portal in the car segment) as well as Garantie System (a mechanical warranty broker).
Andreas Wiele, President Marketing and Classified Ad Models Axel Springer SE: “Since our majority acquisition in 2014, La Centrale has developed significantly better than planned. By taking over the company completely we continue to consistently expand the fast-growing segment of our classified ad models.”
François Couffy, CEO Car&Boat Media: “We are pleased to belong fully to Axel Springer from now on and to contribute even more to the group’s development.”
