Headline: Russian MIA representative took part in UN Global Forum on Migration and Development
The final ninth summit of the UN Global Forum on Migration and Development took place today in Dhaka, the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.
The UN Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) established in 2007 is the largest site for discussing migration issues under the aegis of the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative on International Migration and Development.
Meetings of the GFMD are attended by representatives of migration related agencies of the UN member states, experts of international organizations, including the World Bank, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the International Organization for Migration, the International Labour Organization, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, etc.
Within the chairmanship of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh in the GFMD, the program of the 9th summit of the Forum held on December 11, 2016 comprised the roundtable on lowering the costs of migration, under the aegis of three co-chairs: the Russian Federation, the Republic of India, and the United Arab Emirates.
Besides, over 25 states and 10 international institutions took part in that roundtable.
Deputy Chief of the Administration for Organization of Control and Supervision of the General Administration for Migration Issues of the Russian MIA Ilya Malenko was the co-chair from Russia.
The participants in the roundtable shared unique experience and spoke about the possibility how to recruit migrant workers while lowering costs of their stay in territories of the states.
The international community especially focused on the unique experienced accumulated in the territories of the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Eurasian Economic Union in various aspects of migration processes.
The participants also focused on the enhancement of the legal framework for regulating migration issues and on information exchange.
The development of the Concept Paper on lowering the costs of migration in the English and French languages has become the key result of the GFMD roundtable. The said document is available at the GFMD official website.
