Mathias Döpfner, CEO of Axel Springer SE: ”Kai Diekmann can look back upon a unique career at Axel Springer. We owe him that BILD is a trendsetter of digital journalism today and a highly profitable multimedia brand. In the course of 16 years at the head of the editorial team he managed to continuously develop BILD further, both journalistically as well as structurally. He thereby provided the brand with a strong journalistic impact. We are grateful that he advised and supported the editorial board since its reorganization at the beginning of the year. This now allows for a smooth transition. We are sad that he is leaving us.”
Kai Diekmann: ”After 30 years at Axel Springer it’s hard for me to leave this company to which I owe my whole career. I know that with Tanit Koch, Julian Reichelt, Marion Horn, Peter Huth and all the other fantastic team colleagues BILD, BamS and B.Z. are in the very best hands. With this, I can now look towards new challenges.“
Kai Diekmann came to Axel Springer in 1985 to attend Axel Springer Journalistenschule (school for journalists). He has been working for the company ever since, including only short breaks. He started off as parliamentary correspondent for BILD and BILD am SONNTAG and later filled positions as deputy editor-in-chief of B.Z., as head of BILD’s politics desk and editor-in-chief of WELT AM SONNTAG. In 2001, he took over as editor-in-chief of BILD and additionally became publisher of the whole BILD Group later on. At the end of 2015, he stepped down as BILD editor-in-chief and focused, as publisher, on managing the editors-in-chief as well as the overall BILD offerings, the editorial orientation and the further development of the BILD brands.
