Headline: POLITICO Pro announces continued european expansion in 2017
POLITICO’s European edition, a joint venture between POLITICO and Axel Springer SE, announced today the continued expansion of POLITICO Pro, its paid real-time news service for policy professionals, with increased coverage in multiple policy areas and additions to its current policy tools.
“As we thought about how to better serve our subscribers, we turned to them to ask which additional coverage and features they needed to work smarter in the ever-evolving EU policy landscape,” said Dari Gessner, executive director for POLITICO Pro. “Our expanded environment, fisheries and technology coverage, in addition to new Pro Calendar features, will ensure that POLITICO Pro remains the fastest, most authoritative and complete news service for policy professionals.”
As part of this expansion, POLITICO Pro is renaming its energy news service Pro Energy & Environment, reflecting a commitment to cover more deeply EU environmental policy. Joining the team, led by Senior Policy Editor Jan Cienski, is our new Environment reporter Marion Solletty. Marion, 32, joins POLITICO from French news service franceinfo, where she covered U.S. politics, environment and fisheries. In addition to contributing to daily Pro Energy & Environment’s daily morning newsletter, breaking news alerts and in-depth articles, Marion will write POLITICO Pro Environment Report, a weekly afternoon briefing on the latest issues shaping EU environmental policy sent to Pro subscribers each Thursday after 4:00 p.m. CET.
Pro Agriculture & Food, which launched in spring 2016, will now include in-depth coverage of EU fisheries and oceans policy, with reporter Kait Bolangaro, 28, who will join the team led by Senior Policy Editor Christian Oliver. An award-winning journalist who has written for VICE News, BBC News, Deutsche Welle and Al-Jazeera, Kait will also contribute to Pro’s environment, transport and trade coverage. In addition, Pro Financial Services is strengthening its coverage of the European Central Bank with the arrival of reporter Johanna Treeck, 38, who previously was a senior correspondent at MNI Market News International and Thomson Financial News is one of the most respected journalists covering European monetary policy and will open POLITICO’s fifth European office in Frankfurt.
Pro Calendar, POLITICO Pro’s online feature which curates the events that are driving the policy agenda around the Continent, will feature the Pro Week Ahead, a weekly look at the key upcoming events in each policy area, which is sent to Pro subscribers every Thursday afternoon. Expanded Pro Technology coverage is also expected this spring.
“With over 50 political and policy reporters based in four European countries, our New Year’s resolution remains simple—strengthen our existing policy areas to provide deeper coverage with more insight and more edge from the best policy journalists on the Continent,” said Pro Editor Nirvi Shah.
Since its September 2015 launch, POLITICO Pro has expanded into seven policy coverage areas and has built a subscription base of tens of thousands of European policy professionals from nearly 500 subscriber organizations, including government institutions, corporations, consultancies, associations and NGOs, in more than 20 countries. Pro subscription rates are based on the subscriber organization’s number of users and number of policy areas. In 2016, more than nine out of ten subscribing organizations renewed their Pro subscriptions.
