Matthias Brügelmann, 44, currently Deputy of BILD’s Editor-in-Chief and Managing Editor of FUSSBALL BILD, is to become, as of September 1, 2017, Editor-in-Chief of BILD Group’s new editorial competence center for SPORT. In this role he will be responsible for all sports topics, across the brands BILD, BILD am SONNTAG, B.Z., SPORT BILD, and FUSSBALL BILD. After AUTO, SPORT is the second competence center in which the BILD Group concentrates the strategic responsibility for topics across all titles and thus continues to expand the sports competence for the print and digital channels. The Deputy Editor-in-Chiefs for SPORT will be Henning Feindt, 35, Walter Straten, 58, and Carli Underberg, 36.
Matthias Brügelmann will also be the Editor-in-Chief of SPORT BILD. He will succeed the current Editor-in-Chief, Alfred Draxler, 64, who will continue to work for BILD Group as Lead Columnist and advisor to the main editorial office.

Julian Reichelt, Chairman of BILD’s editorial offices and Editor-in-Chief of BILD Digital: “Alfred Draxler stands for the Champions League of German sports coverage. Over a period of many years, he has established BILD as the most important journalistic sports brand for all sporting disciplines. I thank him for this magnificent work at BILD and subsequently at Europe’s biggest sports magazine SPORT BILD and I am very pleased that, instead of retiring – despite having more than earned this – he will be continuing to provide the BILD Group with his wide-ranging experience as Lead Columnist and advisor to the main editorial office. Matthias Brügelmann will apply his sports expertise in the print and digital channels across all titles in the BILD Group, as shown, for example, by the new Sport BILD App.”
The Management Board for BILD, BILD am Sonntag, B.Z. and FUSSBALL BILD, as well as the digital offerings is led by Donata Hopfen, Publishing Director and Head of Management Board BILD Group; at SPORT BILD this role continues to be performed by Dr. Hans Hamer, Publishing Director for Auto, Computer & Sport.
