Headline: Foreign Ministry of Belarus hosts international seminar “Children’s Rights Institutions: Best World Practices”
On November 27, 2017 the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus hosted an international seminar “Children’s Rights Institutions: Best World Practices”.
The event was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with the UNICEF Office in the Republic of Belarus.
In his opening statement, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Andrei Dapkiunas, noted that ensuring children’s rights is one of the priorities of the national policy.
All necessary measures are taken by the state to ensure that children grow up healthy and happy, well-educated, respectful to elders and caring for the weak, that their talents are promptly noticed and encouraged and their problems are efficiently solved. This is the only way to bring up real patriots and devoted citizens of our country.
The seminar was attended by Belarusian parliamentarians, representatives of the state bodies and NGOs, who informed about the children’s rights protection mechanisms in Belarus. International experts from the UK, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Moldova, Russia, and Finland told about the institution of the Ombudsman for Children in foreign countries.
The Chair of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, Renata Winter, spoke about the approaches of this international structure to the activities of the existing children’s rights monitoring mechanisms.
Participants highly appreciated the event which will contribute to strengthening of the international cooperation and exchange of experience in the field of child protection.
