On 14 March, Vladimir Putin will make a working
trip to a number of regions of the Southern Federal District: Krasnodar
Territory, Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol. During the trip, the President will oversee the construction of the Crimean Bridge, launched in February 2016. The bridge will be 19 kilometres long, which
makes it the longest in Russia and Europe. Road and rail sections are being
built simultaneously. As of this moment, the road section has, on the whole,
been completed: it is now being covered with asphalt and security fencing and lamp
posts are being installed. More than 10,000 workers are employed at the construction site. The motorway section is due to be put into operation in December 2018 and the opening of the railway section is scheduled for late
2019. The President will visit the new terminal of the Simferopol international airport. The construction of the new airport terminal in Simferopol, more than 78,000 square metres in total, began in May 2016. Its
design capacity is 7,000,000 passengers per year and can be increased to 10,000,000 in the future. An upgraded and elongated runway with new taxi strips
will also be put into service. The completion deadline is the beginning of the 2018 summer tourist season. Vladimir Putin will also visit Sevastopol.
