“Investigators of the MIA of Russia GA for the Krasnoyarsk Territory completed a preliminary investigation into the criminal case against members of a criminal group accused of committing a series of carjacks.
According to the investigation, in the period from March 2016 to May 2017, two residents of the city of Krasnoyarsk, using special technical means for switching off the security alarm, committed 12 thefts of medium-price cars. After the alteration of the vehicles’ identification numbers by the accomplice, the offenders sold them to residents of the Republic of Khakassia,” said the official representative of the MIA of Russia Irina Volk.
In addition, the accusation was brought against one more suspect who bought a stolen car for 200 thousand rubles, knowing that it had been obtained by criminal means. The total material damage amounted to about 10 million rubles.
At the end of May 2017, as a result of operational search activities, the participants of the organized group were detained by officers of the Criminal Investigation Administration of the MIA of Russia GA for the Krasnoyarsk Territory.
“Criminal cases have been initiated under articles 158, 326 and 175 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. During the preliminary investigation, 10 out of 12 stolen cars were found, seized and returned to the rightful owners. In order to ensure the victims’ civil claims to the defendants, the court arrested their property,” added Irina Volk.
At present, the criminal case with the indictment approved by the prosecutor has been sent to court for examination on the merits.
