“Officers of the “K” Administration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, together with colleagues from the MIA for the Republic of Mari-El and MIA of Russia GA for Moscow, suppressed the activities of an organized group whose members were suspected of fraudulent sale of tickets for the FIFA 2018 World Cup, as well as smartphones,” informed the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Irina Volk.
The police established that the offenders created an online store and a call center, whose employees took orders, informed about methods of payment and coordinated the delivery addresses. Having received from fans a 100-percent prepayment of tickets, worth from 20 to 60 thousand rubles each, they stopped communicating.
“A similar scheme of deception was used when selling smartphones. Orders were accepted through an Internet site, the goods were delivered by post with cash on delivery. However, instead of phones, customers received sand-filled boxes,” added Irina Volk.
During the search, computer equipment, cell phones, bank and sim-cards, packages from household appliances, counterfeit contracts for the sale of tickets to the FIFA 2018 World Cup and seals were seized. The site through which tickets had been sold was blocked.
“Investigation unit of the MIA of Russia Administration for the city of Yoshkar-Ola instituted a criminal case on the grounds of the crime provided for by part 2 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. Two people were detained in the Stavropol Territory under Article 91 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation. In the Republic of Mari-El with respect to their accomplice, a previously convicted 34-year-old resident of the Moscow Region, the court has chosen a preventive measure in the form of remand in custody,” said Irina Volk.
Policemen suppressed in time the offenders’ activities and did not allow the widespread of the illegal scheme conceived by them.
