The day before, a meeting between representatives of the Public Council with the leadership of the regional Traffic Police and inspectors of the Traffic Police took place at the Administration of the Traffic Police of the Russian MIA General Administration for the Irkutsk Region.
In the course of the meeting, the members of the dedicated commission of the Public Council under the Russian MIA General Administration discussed reasons and conditions causing road accidents and worked out a number of joint initiatives aimed to improve the accident rate in the Irkutsk Region.
The list of the suggested projects includes an “exhibition” of crashed cars to be opened in Irkutsk at the premises of an impoundment lot of the city. Its main visitors will be graduates of driving schools and persistent violators of the road rules. By learning about road accidents and destinies of their participants and looking at consequences of particular road accidents, future drivers should become aware of the degree of their personal responsibility and would never neglect safety.
Prevention of road accidents involving children was a separate topic within the discussion. That problem is in the focus of attention due to seasonal specifics. In summer, minors are under less strict control on the part of their parents, and many of them lack sufficient knowledge and skills of safe behavior on the roads.
Answering the questions of the Public Council, Chief of the Traffic Police Administration of the Police Administration Police Colonel Vyacheslav Zhilkin emphasized that the street and road network had considerably changed recently by the example of Irkutsk. Owing to the joint work, transport flows in key areas of the regional center were divided, which helped reduce the accident rate in those streets and highways several times.
In addition, officers of the Traffic Police organized collaboration with the Russian Motorists Society, as a result of which a children’s mobile auto city has been created – it is the only one in Irkutsk and the Irkutsk Region. At the territory of that auto city, officers of the Traffic Police carry out preventive lessons for educational institutions of the city and the region. Dozens of preventive measures have been carried out with the support of the Russian Motorists’ Society and the Motorists’ Union of Siberia. Besides, many thousands of leaflets, stickers and flickers have been published. Young traffic inspectors and association “Green Wave” coordinating work with children and youth also play a significant role in children’s trainings.
