Officers of the MIA of Russia GA for Economic Security and Combating the Corruption (ES&CC) together with colleagues from the Republic of Buryatia revealed a fact of smuggling of jade that had been illegally mined in the territory of the Okinsky District.
It was established that the 68-year-old director of one of the largest commercial enterprises in the region organized the transfer of 50 tons of raw jade across the border of the Eurasian Economic Union. The damage from illegal activities amounted to 750 thousand US dollars,” said the official representative of the MIA of Russia Irina Volk.
Based on materials provided by the police, the Buryat customs department initiated a criminal case against the director based on the grounds of the crime envisaged by part 1 of Article 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
Earlier, in April of this year, based on the fact that the company was engaged in illegal business activities of the jade extraction, the Investigation Administration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Republic of Buryatia instituted criminal proceedings on the grounds of the crime provided for in clause 2 (2) of Article 171 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. Then, police officers during the search seized 112 tons of illegally mined mineral to a total of more than 103 million rubles.
