The activities of members of an inter-ethnic organized criminal group were suppressed by the Orel police in 2015. Then, criminal investigation officers organized a special operation to detain the offenders involved in robbery attacks on entrepreneurs in several areas. The police detained members of the organized crime group in a house in the village of Pronino. In the same place, law enforcement officers found two beaten and bound men. During the search of the premises, the police found two pneumatic pistols, eight mobile phones and masks with slits for eyes. Those rescued turned out to be entrepreneurs who came to the Orel Region from the Krasnodar Territory.
A criminal case was opened on the grounds of the crime stipulated by clause “a” of part 4 of Art. 162 of the Criminal Code “Robbery”. The offenders were six citizens of neighboring countries. The criminal case was investigated by a specially created investigative group of the MIA of Russia Administration for the Orel Region. During the investigation and conducted operational search activities, it was established that the detainees had been involved not only in the crime in the Orel Region, but also in seven similar cases of robbery attacks against citizens committed on the territory of the Tula, Vladimir, Kaluga, Kursk and Smolensk regions.
It was established that two defendants were involved in all eight episodes of the criminal activity. The other members of the criminal group were involved in different cases in different combinations.
The case was sent to the Orel District Court for consideration. The district court convicted each defendant to real imprisonment terms from 4 to 11 years. The court collegium of the Oryol regional court, having considered the case on appeal, recognized the punishment imposed on the convicted person to be excessively mild and strengthened the final punishment. The offenders were sentenced to imprisonment for terms from 5 to 15 years.
