On July 30, 2018 the UN Office for Drugs and Crime (UNODC) hold a special event, commemorating the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, in the Vienna International Center.

The Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, Executive Director of the UNODC, Yuri Fedotov, the Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Belarus to the International Organizations in Vienna, Alena Kupchyna, Permanent Representatives of France and Serbia took part in the event as keynote speakers.
Opening the event, Y.Fedotov emphasized the leading role of Belarus in activities of the Group of Friends United against Human Trafficking, which includes today 21 states.
In her statement, Alena Kupchyna noted importance of partnerships joining states, international organizations, academia, business community, mass media, and civil society in combating trafficking in persons. She underlined that work of these partnerships can be effective only if the efforts made are backed up by adequate financial support. In this regard, the Ambassador emphasized the crucial importance of the United Nations Voluntary Trust Fund for Victims of Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children.
The Permanent Representative of Belarus underlined the substantial work of the OSCE, which, together with the UN Women, will co-chair the Inter-Agency Coordination Group against Trafficking in Persons (ICAT), a policy forum consisting of 23 UN agencies and regional organizations, in 2019.
Alena Kupchyna highlighted the initiatives of Belarus successfully implemented within the UN, in particular in the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, as well as in the OSCE.
During the event a special set of ten stamps issued by the UN Office in Vienna to raise awareness on trafficking in persons was presented. This was done as a part of the “Blue Heart” Campaign aimed at mobilization of efforts of the international community against human trafficking.
