“As a result of operational search activities, officers of the Criminal Investigation Administration of the MIA of Russia GA for the Volgograd Region, with the power support of Rosgvardia fighters detained members of an organized group suspected of stealing money from drivers of heavy trucks proceeding through the Volgograd Region from CIS countries and Europe,” said the official representative of the MIA of Russia Irina Volk.
According to available information, the organizer of the group was a 34-year-old resident of Volgograd, who involved in illegal activity five men with a serious criminal record and one woman.
The offenders stopped trucks with foreign registration plates and demanded that drivers pay for travelling by the roads of the region. In return, the so-called security passes with the seal of a certain commercial organization manufactured with a color printer were issued.
“According to operatives, as a result of threats, about 15-20 drivers of heavy vehicles agreed daily to give the offenders money in exchange for a fake pass.
Currently, all seven suspects have been detained. During the personal inspection, search of the car and apartment, policemen seized money allegedly received as a result of illegal activity, about a hundred forms, as well as office equipment,” said Irina Volk.
A criminal case was initiated on the grounds of the crime stipulated by part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. With respect to all the seven defendants, the court selected a preventive measure in the form of remand in custody.
