Recently, the Duty Unit of the Russian MIA Division for the Uvatsky District received a complaint from the forest guard about illegal logging of coniferous trees in the reserve forest area located in the district.
The investigation response team that arrived at the scene identified the suspect without delay. That is a 35-year old self-employed man manufacturing lumber. The suspect confessed that he had intended to use the timber for commercial purposes.
According to the expert assessment, the damage inflicted to the state forest fund of the Russian Federation approximated 180,000 rubles.
The authorities initiated a criminal case based on essential elements of a crime stipulated by part 3 Article 260 “Illegal logging” of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The suspect may be fined in an amount of up to 3,000,000 rubles or imprisoned for up to seven years.
