“Officers of the Administration for Economic Security and Combatting the Corruption (ES&CC) of the MIA of Russia Administration for the Primorsky Territory suppressed the activities of a group whose members were suspected of trafficking in derivatives of animals listed in the Red Book,” said the official representative of the Russian MIA Irina Volk.
In the city of Artem, the police stopped a car of one of the taxi companies. While inspecting the car they found in the trunk a skin of the Amur tiger. The taxi passenger explained that this box was handed to her by an acquaintance in Vladivostok. Environmental damage caused to the state by the killing of a Red Book animal, exceeded 1.1 million rubles.
The Investigative unit of the Investigation Administration of the MIA of Russia Administration for the Primorsky Territory initiated a criminal case on the grounds of the crime provided for by part 1 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. A 44-year-old local resident and a 55-year-old resident of the city of Vladivostok were detained, in respect of whom the court has chosen a preventive measure in the form of a written undertaking of not leaving the place and of proper conduct.
Further measures are being taken to reveal additional episodes and accomplices in the unlawful activities.
