“Officers of the Criminal Investigation Administration of the MIA of Russia GA for the Moscow Region detained members of a group suspected of kidnapping people for the purpose of money extortion,” said the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Irina Volk.
“It was established that unknown persons near one of the houses on the avenue of 60th Anniversary of October in Shchyolkovo city district, threatening with physical violence, abducted two men and held them in an apartment building in the city of Balashikha. For their liberation they demanded 500,000 rubles, and also debt receipts for the performance of construction works worth more than 10 million rubles. To demonstrate the seriousness of their intentions, they fired several shots from a traumatic gun at the victims and took possession of their cars,” said Irina Volk.
Later, one of the men managed to escape, the second was released to collect money.
On this fact, the Investigation Division for the city of Shchyolkovo, of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation GA for the Moscow Region, initiated a criminal case on the grounds of the crime stipulated by part 2 of Article 126 and part 2 of Article 163 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
“As a result of operational search activities, police officers at various locations in Moscow detained four previously repeatedly convicted natives of the Stavropol Territory aged between 26 and 34 and a 21-year-old resident of the Moscow Region,” the Agency Spokesperson added.
During the searches, documents on stolen cars, mobile phones, technical means of suppressing radio signals, knives, traumatic, pneumatic and signal pistols were confiscated. In addition, one of the stolen cars was found in a car maintenance center.
With respect to the defendants, the court has chosen a preventive measure in the form of remand in custody. A set of measures is being carried out aimed at establishing other episodes of their unlawful activities.
