“In the Kaluga Region, the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate officers promptly detained a group of people suspected of committing a series of robbery attacks in the region: they were four young people aged from 19 to 26 who had arrived in Russia from neighboring countries,” reported the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Irina Volk.
During the inspection of the vehicle on which the offenders were moving, the police found masks, gloves, cash and two pneumatic pistols.
“According to available information, the first robbery was committed by the defendants in the city of Obninsk. In early hours of the morning several people broke into a food shop where they threatened employees with guns and stole money from the cash register, after which they fled the scene in an unknown direction,” Irina Volk said.
“A few days later, two bookmakers offices located in Obninsk and Kaluga were attacked following an analogous scheme, and the administrator of one of the offices managed to quickly inform the police about the incident, and all the operational services and police detachments were focused on the search for the offenders, and a few minutes later the suspects were detained by the officers of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate,” added an official representative of the department.
Investigative units of territorial internal affairs bodies have instituted criminal proceedings on the grounds of the crime stipulated by part 2 of Article 162 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
With respect to the defendants, the court has chosen a preventive measure in the form of remand in custody. Measures are being taken to identify possible accomplices.
