The Chief of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia noted that in recent years the situation on the roads had a stable positive trend: “Compared to 2012, the number of deaths in road accidents has reduced by one third, the number of wounded – by almost 17%”. At the same time, the number of victims remains significant, which requires additional measures to influence key traffic accident factors.
“This year, the Ministry began implementing the Road Safety Strategy, for the period until 2024. An important aspect of its implementation is, among other things, the integration of efforts with civil society institutions,” stressed the head of the Agency.
Such interaction is carried out in several directions, including assistance to the staff of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate at stationary posts, places of mass leisure and during patrolling of the territory. Representatives of auto-clubs, voluntary people’s squads, volunteer associations participate in the promotion of law-abiding behavior on the roads.
Vladimir Kolokoltsev drew attention to the need of continuing the systemic explanatory work and told about the results of checking the information received from citizens on facts of non-compliance with the Traffic Rules. “Only from the beginning of the year in the process of checking such signals, almost 190 thousand violations were suppressed. Including the detention of more than 17 thousand drivers with signs of intoxication. Based on the results of the examination of the received photo and video materials, about 40,000 decisions on imposing administrative penalties were taken,” said the Chief of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, noting that the agency is grateful to caring motorists.
In his speech, the Minister outlined the actual task of improving the underage safety level: “According to statistics, they become participants in every eighth road accident with the victims. Therefore, it is so important to provide an integrated approach to the prevention of child road traffic injuries.”
The participants of the meeting, chaired by Anatoly Kucherena, agreed that a lot was being done in that area: thematic events, flash mobs and competitions were regularly held. Many projects are implemented in health and school camps as part of the annual All-Russian campaign “Vacations with the Public Council” and allow not only for the organization of interesting leisure for children and adolescents, but also for the development in them the necessary skills of behavior in various traffic situations. The results of the action were summed-up by the secretary of the Public Council under the Russian MIA Aleksey Zabelin.
