The XVIII meeting of the Russia-EU Joint Committee on Readmission was held at Russian MIA. The meeting was dedicated to the issues related to implementation of the Agreement on Readmission between the Russian Federation and the European Community dated May 25, 2006.
The Russian Delegation was headed by First Deputy Chief of the Russian MIA General Administration for Migration Issues Police Major-General Andrey Krayushkin. The delegation included representatives of the Department of Records and Work with Citizens and Organizations, the General Administration of Criminal Investigation, the Treaty and Law Department of the Russian MIA and Federal State Institution “Main Informational and Analytical Center of the Russian MIA”, as well as specialists of the European Cooperation Department and the Consular Department of the Russian MIA.
The delegation of the European Union consisted of representatives of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Migration and Home Affairs, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency FRONTEX, representatives of the EU in Moscow, and experts of the EU member states.
According to the joint opinion of the participants in the meeting, the Agreement on Readmission between the Russian Federation and the European Community remains a key element of the parties’ contractual and legal framework enabling to efficiently settle issues related to implementation of the readmission procedures for countering illegal migration.
In the course of the meeting, the participants thoroughly discussed practical aspects of the cooperation in the said area and outlined the plans for the next year.
