“Officers of the MIA of Russia Main Directorate for Drug Trafficking control together with colleagues from the Republic of Mari El eliminated an underground laboratory for the production of synthetic drugs,” said the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs Irina Volk.
“As a result of operational search activities, the police stopped a car near the village of Pomary of the Volzhskiy District. The driver explained that he was going to the Republic of Tatarstan together with a man, whom he had found using the Internet service intended for searching for travel companions. During the personal inspection of the passenger the police found several packages with a powdery substance. The study found that the seized substance was mephedron with a total weight of about 900 grams,” Irina Volk said.
A criminal case was initiated against the detainee by the Investigation Unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Republic of Mari El on the grounds of the crime provided for by part 3 of Article 30 and part 5 of article 228.1 of the Russian Criminal Code. Placement to custody was selected by Court as the preventive measure for the suspect.
During a search in the garage rented by the suspect in Yoshkar-Ola, a workshop for the production of prohibited substances was found. Special equipment and canisters with a liquid, allegedly used for the manufacture of narcotic drugs, have been seized.
Currently operative search measures aimed at establishing all the circumstances of the suspects’ criminal activity are being implemented.
