The Federal Law is aimed at further improving the legislation of the Russian Federation on elections and referendums.
In particular, the Federal Law prohibits persons sentenced to imprisonment for medium-gravity premeditated crimes, whose sentence had not been expunged or cancelled on voting day, to run as candidates in elections for five years after their conviction was expunged or cancelled.
